The Northern Virginia Greeting
The Northern Virginia Greeting is, according to Jules Ismail, "the way we say 'hello' in Northern Virginia". It consists of firmly planting one's hand onto the underside of the target's crotch. There is a countermeasure in existence, known as the Maryland Block, which consists of the target placing his or her hand in front of his or her crotch seconds before the "greeter's" hand is able to reach it. This is usually followed by a momentary yet fierce battle of will in which the two lock eyes until either the "greeter" or the target moves his or her hand away, thus giving into the other's maneuver.
